By Elly Zimmer, Ph.D.Science engagement at festivals can be very valuable in reaching large and diverse audiences.
Social and cognitive sciences are rarely represented at such festivals, unlike the more well-known physical sciences (e.g., astronomy, chemistry). Thus, this commentary has two main goals.
- First, it is an exhortation for scientists from smaller or less well-known fields to participate in festivals in order to increase public appreciation of the breadth of scientific study.
- Second, we offer practical advice on how to design and run festival activities for scientists who are interested in participating in festivals.
